Overview
Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to ensure that suitable and sufficient training is provided to those employees who carry out manual handling tasks to enable them to do so in a safe manner.

This course covers the essential knowledge that is needed by those employees whose duties involve Manual Handling Operations. The course provides delegates with the practical skills for safe lifting techniques.

Employees who carry out manual handling activities at work.

Aims
To raise awareness of the risks arising from manual handling operations and of how they are controlled. To introduce correct lifting techniques for persons who carry out manual handling activities at work.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness of the risks caused by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving loads, and of the ways the risks can be controlled
  • To explain the content of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • To understand the basic workings of the spine and joints and possible causes of injury
  • To understand and be able to apply the principles of safe lifting and carrying

  • Causes of injuries from manual handling operations
  • Functions of the muscle-skeletal system and the structure of the spine
  • Safe lifting techniques
  • Practical sessions on lifting techniques


Certification
Delegates should successfully demonstrate correct manual handling techniques in order to receive the Manual Handling - How to Lift Safely certificate.
